3 things you need to know about Luck?

When a man says he's never had a chance, it's because he's never seized it.

Recently, I saw a film in which someone said “when a man says he’s never had a chance, it’s because he’s never seized it”. Given the number of people I meet who tell me “I’m unlucky” or “I’ve never had a chance”, I thought I’d write an article to give you some perspective and a few things to know that will change your life if you apply them.

First of all, what is luck? It’s the possibility of something happening through an unexpected and inexplicable combination of circumstances. Having read that, I’d like to tell you that luck is not a determining criterion for your fulfillment, your success or your future. Be honest with yourself: would you bet the success of your life, your family, your ministry or your business on the lottery? Would you make the lottery or any other game of chance a determining factor in your success? If so, I invite you to get in touch with one of our counsellors, who will be happy to help you (no offence intended), as this is a sign of major malaise. Most of you would say no, and that’s a perfectly sensible answer. Luck is not a criterion for success, so now that’s been said. Here are a few things you need to know to bring about the expected effects of luck.

  1. Replace waiting with proactivity: you can wait for others or pro-act and initiate. By waiting, you put yourself in the position of the person who places his treasure in a lottery ticket and waits for the results – you’re powerless. Proactivity leads you to develop a plan of action, a strategy to see the desired changes or hoped-for results arrive. Decide to act and don’t remain inactive. Inactivity will lead you to sink into quicksand until you suffocate.
  2. Dare to move forward: there’s no secret to the fact that if you don’t do anything, you won’t achieve anything. Others would say that “the best way to fail is to do nothing for fear of failing”. I’m not going to lie to you: success won’t necessarily come on the first try. You’ll have to dare, discover, readjust and so on. Think of your life as a research laboratory for your success. You can search for years, but once the search begins, the only way to succeed is to keep searching until you find it. Perseverance is an essential key to success. Very often, the people who don’t succeed are those who didn’t dare to take the plunge, or those who lacked perseverance.
  3. Believe in yourself: your motivation must go beyond your own life. It’s easy to buy a ticket and hope to win – it works for some, but even then, it’s not alone. The success of the person who won the lottery was made possible by the thousands of others who failed. Morally speaking, you have to admit it’s not great! I always think of all those researchers who devoted their lives to research and succeeded only after their death. At times, your life will be doomed to unprecedented change, for which it will take more than the time you have on earth to prepare the world for this change, but believe in yourself, because this change is necessary.

Luck will only offer you a tiny chance, and is not a criterion to be taken into account in achieving your goals. Personally, I classify it as “disempowerment”. To place your trust in chance is to live in a romantic illusion of creation without any real depth. I remember a friend of mine telling me that “there are 3 categories of people: those who don’t believe because that’s all they have to look forward to, those who believe because they’re smart enough to see things through to the end, and those who don’t believe because they’re living in between and feeding an illusory vision of life”. Stop deluding yourself and see things through to the end. There’s no such thing as chance, everything has been created for a reason. You were created for a reason, find it and free yourself!
